TEST: DIY FrSkY 8CH RX

INTRODUCTION

Here a new cheap FrSky 8CH receiver accepting CPPM input and sold around 11USD so close to 3 times cheaper than the D4R-II for example

The receiver weights 5.4g with the plastic protecting film

As you can, there is a uFL connector so you can plug easily anytype of 2.4G antenna

null

A user managed to strip out the pin header connector

null

The weight decreased to 2.8g

This module talks with the “D8” FrSky protocol. The first test showed a range of approximatively 600m… pretty good for a simple cheap like this. More, you can update the firmware. With new ones, you can send by telemetry the RSSI and Battery voltages AD1 & AD2.

This receiver is ideal for cheap and lightweight DIY small racers, for example for the Diatone ET150

The ISP connexion can be done via a USBasp module for example. Here is the pinout

CH5 – MOSI
CH6 – MISO
CH7 – SCK
any “+” – VCC
any “-” – GND
Pin pad – RST

UNBOXING, BINDING AND FLASHING PROCEDURE

PROS

+ Cheap
+ Good range (better than DSMX)
+ Telemetry with last F/W

CONS

– No stripped version sold
