INTRODUCTION

After the Horizon hobby VA1100 the first RTF micro FPV-cam integrating a 5.8G VTX, relatively soon emerged some competitor for example the FXT FX798T. Eachine just announced another model with more or less the same ingredients, i.e. the EV-01. Here again we have a wide-angle lens, a cloverleaf antenna and 25mW VTX. The originality comes from the presense of a CCD sensor instead of a classic CMOS model. The VTX is 40ch supporting the race band.

The size is compact, very similar to the VA1100 of the FX798T. Maybe the CL antenna coaxiable cable is a litle bit longer…

The rear side welcome two columns of LEDs and a unique button.

The button control the channel selction if briefly pressed, the band selection if pressed more than 2s and the video format if press more than 4 seconds.

The lens thread is a M8 model

The 5.8G is directly soldered on the VTX module. The antenna is not based with a classic round copper wire but with more plates copper band, IMHO more fragile and less resistant to torsion. I strongly advise to hotglue this zone.

8.6g in total so close 3g more heavier than direct competitor !!!! It’s a lot and in fact this model is not really Tiny Whoop friendly. Can be installed from a > 130mm .

Disassembling

Two scews to remove to free the EV-01 from its casing. Two layers of PCB are here. The first one for the camera electroic. The second is dedicaced to the VTX. There are connected togather by a 3pin connector.

UNBOXING & TESTING

Raw video sample (recorded with the AOMWAY HD588). Vfreq set to E1=5705Mhz

Color rendition are really nice, the FOV not ultra large and the light adaptation works really well.

CONCLUSIONS

The Eachine EV-01 offers probably the best quality and stronger FPV link …. but the price of this CCD sensor is an extra weight too important for being installed on tiny FPV machines w/ sacrifying too much flying caracteristics. I regret the remaining presence of motor’s interférences as well…. If you plan to use the same LiPo, You will need to add an extra 1g voltrage regulator…. In total with the DIY cable, the FPV ring should scale around 10g with the casing and 8.5g without ….

– 8.6g w/o the power cable
– Can’t be powered with the same LIpo without motor’s interferences
– Fragile Cloverleaf antenna
