The second half of 2015 seems to be the semester of toy hexacopters. After 3 or 4 nanos, here is a micro-sized model offering a 2Mpx camera module, i.e. the Q282Jl.

The camera lens mount is a M7 model (compatible with the 808#16 lens D for example)
Some 7mmx20mm coreless motors are installed. For a total weight of 63g, maybe this model is not powerful enought to have a good thrust capacity
The camera module is advertised to be 720p in both in video and photo. In practice it’s false… Only photo are in 720p format but videos are in VGA format @60fps (like the V686J module since it’s the same module). By the way, as you can see in this video sample, the general quality good for a VGA camera with a good light sensitivity and color rendition. As expected, the Field of View is a little bit limited. The lens is slightly targetting the ground too.
As you can see, videos are jellofree, a very positive point with a limited FOV and a micro sized model.

The main PCB shows a XN287 RFchips …. It’s official since the second revision of the V686, WLtoys changed again its radio protocol to save a fraction of cents. This chip don’t offer the same performances at the same datarate than a nRF24L01 or a Beken 2423 (previously prefered). The range out of the box don’t exceed 50m.. By drilling a small on tjhe top canomy, you can install the antenna vertically and increase the range by consequence.
EDIT 10/01/15: Good news, the protocol have been “Deviated”. Download the hexfet testbuid and select the new CX-10 option
The classic WLtoys chassis is shipped. Amoing the six panel buttons, 4 are used to select the speed mod. Only Pitch and tilt rates are increased. The yaw remains constant (a little bit slow IMHO). The Light buttons if pressed more than 2s activâtes the “One Key Return”, an inaccurate feature potentially source of fly away. The last button if pressed more than 2 sec turns on the Headless mod. The reference is fixed at start up. You can reset this reference by pushing both stick in lower left position. I didn’t find yet how to recalibrates gyroscopes. Finally the top left button turn on/off video recording and the top right bumper activates flips after a right stick direction indication.
To make short, I didn’t like this model. Except the look relatively cute, majors problems can be found in the design. The choice of 7mm motors for a total weight of 63g is killing all the global performances: relatively poor vertical thust, instability and diffculties in the autolevelling after a fast banking and a short flying duration. More, WLtoys changed again the radio protocol: instead to continue with the excellent flysky ( > 150m, based on a A7105), they prefered a new one based on the “poor” XN297… Consequence out of the box the range is limited. Luckely, you can extend the range via the “antenna mod” and if one day this protocol is deviated, the range will be one more time increased. Finally, the camera module is not a 720p but only a (good) VGA (3 year old module).
