INTRODUCTION

Here are the first elements of the mini-review of the Wingsland Scarlet Minivet, a all-in-one 390mm brushless quadcopter equiped of a 3D gimbal, a full HD cam (30fps) and 5.8G FPV part. I will construct this mini-review step by step in order to give you as soon as possible important elements of the model.

Two micro dip switches are located to select channels. By default, the frequency is set to 5645Mhz (a Boscam freq). I will check if there are some Fatshark compatible frequencies. Notice the gimbal’s micro-USD port proably to set gimbal parameters/flash new gimbal F/W.

You will need a 2mm hex screwdriver to remove the 16 screws to access to the main quadcopter electronic

I received the pre-release version. The final version have minor improvement. The pre-release version have a green PCB while the final have a black one. This is why FC firmware (.vast files) have color indication in their name

The gimbal is connector on the “P7” port. No information about the FC design. Maybe a home-made model ? The Ground station software is now available (see attached files below)

TRANSMITTER

A very nice chassis with mate plastic. A 10CH model : 2 left 3-way switches to select flight modes, 2 right switches (one 3-way, one toggle) for the camera module and joystick located behind to control the gimbal. Both sticks have springs. I didn’t find yet how to turn in into mode 1 and vice and versa.

The L1 in upper position represents the manual mod while in bottom position engages the RTH. For L2, if in bottom position, you are activating the Headless mode. In upper position, you set/record a POI (Point Of Interest) (I think L1 must be also in central position).
I will investigate later about this new feature.

2.5″ FPV MONITOR

The 2.5″ FPV monitor offers on the right side ; a press button (long pressing : to turn on/off monitor, short pressing: to cycle over the 8 videos frequencies), a 1.5mm jack (probably an AVout), a micro-USB slot (to recharge the 850mAh LiPo) and a status LED (red : recharging, blue : charged)

The instruction do not mention the frequencies available via this FPV system. I collected them

FIRST USAGE

Here the video of my first flight with the Minivet. Unfortunatly, my gimbal is not perfectly tuned and rotate by itself. Whatever here is the results of my first flight. From 5min50, you will have toverlayed he FPV live video on bottom left and the 1080p recording on bottom right. I used an AOMWAY RX004 to record the FPV part.

For a first test, I was positively impressed by the general quality of the camera especially with the HDR option turned on. Even if my gimbal is not correctly calibrated, videos are jellofree. In another hand, I was not impressed by the VRX sensitivity. Clearly, this FPV monitor need to be modded in order to install RP-SMA connector + cloverleaf antenna. The latency is around 100ms and no extra latency/frames drop is observed when recording is turned on too.

Concerning the quadcopter itself… very positives feedback: stable, GPS position hold efficient, visible LEDs,

I received a fixed gimbal and it works perfectly now. The LCD also have been updated, no more “blue screen”

– FC software still uncomplete but should be updated soon

– MicroSD card can fall by accident into the camera support

      All minivet comes now with the last main FC board and yes the gimbal should be calibrated out of the box but in any case you have to do the compass calibration according to your local area

    I wanted to ask how to change the channel on the drone, because when connected to a PC via USB, I see nothing. By default, this is set CH5 but I would like to set the channel 1?

    I bought a Scarlet Minivet from Gearbest and I have a problem with the gimbal/camera out of the box. The camera/gimbal can’t make the stabilization when the quadcopter tilt to the right or to the left. Click on this link to see the problem : http://1drv.ms/1ohBn1P.     1. I know you have also tested X380 – what you think, which quadcopter is better (for aerial photography/filming) – X380 or Minivet? If you compare e.g. reliability, flying properties (time of flight, speed, control range, stability in air, GPS accuracy), possibility to modify quadcopter.
    2. You have modified antennas to get better FPV transfer… What was the maximal distance for picture transmission after this modification? With original transmitter it should be up to 600m, but people complain, that in reality it is just around 100m. Could I install any e.g. TX mushroom and RX mushroom antenna on quadcopter and FPV receiver?
    3. Is it easy to replace gimbal and camera supplied by WINGSLAND by another one (e.g. 2D walkera gimbal + GoPro camera) or would this require any complicated modifications?
    4. Is OSD dependent on video transmission? If the quadcopter would be too far or I would dismount camera and gimbal, would I see any info (velocity, height, distance etc.) on FPV screen?
    5. As “cons” you mentioned “Proprietary battery (but can be modded)”. How this can be modded? Another battery could be used?
    6. As “cons” you mentioned “Not sporty quadcopter, it’s a real AP”. Is it slow? According to product description it should fly by velocity 18m/s (i.e. 64km/h) in GPS mode or even manually, which seems to me quite fast when compared to many other AP quadcopters. So is this information from manufacture not correct? Did you reach this speed on FPV screen when you were testing Minivet? Also they say flying time maximum of 25min – is it correct?

    Hi,
    you have also tested X380 quadcopter. So if you compare X380 with Minivet which of them is better (for aerial photography)? If you consider e.g. reliabilty, flying properties (time of flight, speed, distance of control, stability in air), possibilty to modify quadcopter, reparation after crash… etc.
    You have modified anthene at FPV screen and quadcopter to increase distance for picture/video transmission. How much did you get after this – what was maximal distance for picture transmission after this modification? Normally it should be up to 600m…

      In term of stability the X380 is superiori even last FW 1.05 of the minivet improved a lot the thing. In fact with the last F/W update of the minivet I advise more the minivet.
      THe initial FPV range of the minivet is in practice poor, around 200m. The RX senstivity of the small FPV monitor is poor. I strongly advise to do antenna’s mod… than you will be able to enjoy a 1km > range.

    I have been having no luck stabilizing camera gimbals on Minivet . I have went thorough the calibration procedures a dozen times an get the values to X 0 Y 0 and within a minute of turning the battery back on the camera shakes violently .

    What is the secret or is this just a poorly engineered product.

    Hello all
    The Company Wingsland SZSungreen is a complete fake. This new startup enterprise is not more than a bad copy of DJI, which is a serious company in my opinion.
    I own both Minivet and Phantom devices, and you can’t imagine how difference the service can be. When I had a trouble with my P3A they solved the problem in Holland with no cost (only shipping) and a very good technical response and fast.
    When I had problems with Minivet, due to the fact the firmwire is completely faulty, they had me waiting up to 8 MONTHS until I got a final response! A long wasted time with lots of emails claiming their fault, not mine. So the aftersales service of this company is a great shit. I had a terrible falldown from sky with no reason, complete motors cutoff power with 80% battery and at 30m distance from me. Crazy. It can only be the latest firmwire update that was recommended by the technical service SZSungreen.
    I bought this Scarlet to practice and learn to fly, but I now know it is a bad copy of the Phantom 3 unit. The Minivet is only a bad toy which cannot be considered a drone, cause it is so faulty. And now Wingsland is beginning to copy the Inspire 1 and the Osmo from DJI. Pathetic results I guess.
    I don’t want to finish this comment without advising that the seller that I bought it from was Hobbyreal, please stay away from this dealer as it did nothing to solve the problem. Customers are always forced to pay even when the blame is on others.
    Do whatever you need to do with this Scarlet Minivet, but please be aware of this comment and of course you are free to buy from whoever you like. I WILL NEVER EVER BUY FROM HOBBYREAL or SZSUNGREEN.

      Well …. It’s true the Minivet is far of a P3A building quality…. but since the last recent firmware, sorry the Minivet offers relatively good videos.. (see videos posted in the main RCgroups thread). You are right Custumers service of such compagny can’t be compared with DJI. Anyway, I always had replies from my Minivet contact. For a 380USD quad, I think it’s absoluptly not a bad option if you update everything with last firwamre and calibrate correctly the machine. By consequence, it’s not an so easy machine like the DJI

    Thank you for a very informative website on the Minivet. I have had lots of problems with the Minivet, including sudden flip overs when landing and frying the motors because the controller doesn’t shut the copter off.

    Can anyone tell me what to do about no reception from the camera? It used to work fine. All I get is static on the monitor on all channels.

      Can your camera still recording ? If you don’t have the FPV link, check the 3 wires cable going to the VTX… I would say more to the gimbal part …. One of this 3 wire is the live video signak coming from your camera

          But the camera is brocasting live the signal at least ? right ? It cam comes from the camera recording trigger wire …. Is you minivet had a crash ?

            It has crashed but not a hard crash, maybe less than 1 meter from the ground. I don’t know how to tell if the camera is broadcasting. All I see is static on the screen and the camera controls do not seem to do anything to the camera.

    after ordering minivet I discovered many site stating problems with the quadcopter.After the minivet arrived I flew the craft around the yard at about six feet above ground. when I tried to land the minivet flipped over and crashed.ther was not much damage because it fell about three feet. The second time I tried flying it again it crashed. I installed the new software/firmware when it became available and did the required set up. Now I thought my problems were over so I flew the minivet at about 20 feet with no problems but when I tried to land it the copter came down about six feet flipped over and crashed causing fair amount of damage because it crashed from about twelve feet. I was bringing it down very slow. I was going to return it to BANG-GOOD but the shipping cost was too high. They offered a partial refund which I accepted. The controller worked fine with another copter so I concluded that I had a bad flight controller board in the minivet. I emailed szsungreen three times wanting to purchase a new flight controller board with the refund I got from BANG-GOOD but they will not reply. I tried ordering the board from szsungreen dealers but they cannot supply. Does anyone know where I can get a flight controller board ?

    Just bought it and can not get the drone to fly. Transmitter doesn’t connect to the drone. Can’t activate the engines.
